S16: Guard Tower - Top floor

The Roof of the Guard Tower is a fairly drab and pragmatic place. Looming high over the District, the guards stationed at the tower top have a commanding view of the neighborhood, the city, and even the sea

Four large ballistae are mounted to the crenellations along the perimeter, one in each cardinal direction. They have a 120 degree firing arc, side-to-side and vertically as well, enabling them to shoot down at invaders or up at threats from above.

Also located on the tower roof is a small shelter where messenger pigeons are kept. These pigeons are backups in case those in the cities central keep should be lost, and they have generally grown fairly fat and lazy. Lately, since the tenure of the new guard chef Tevan (See S15), birds that get too obese often end up as dinner in the mess one night. Guard initiates are then sent out to by new birds from the merchants in the city.

Even with all of the uproar about the Open Game License (OGL) now settled, you may still be thinking about trying another system. Story and Character Development

I’ve been doing a lot of reading, trying to determine what system and adventure I might like to run after my Ghosts of Saltmarsh and Light of Xaryxis games end. One of the products that I was reading the other day was the Titansgrave: Ashes of Valkana setting and adventure from Green Ronin Publishing. While doing so, I was struck by a particular passage regarding story and character development: "If you watch the show, you'll not that Wil teases a lot of information out of the players about their characters in the early episodes. Dragonbane BETA

The Beta documents for Free League Publishing's new fantasy role-playing game Dragonbane, were released several weeks ago and have received steady updates throughout the beta process. Kickstarter backers have been able to play and test the system. Here at the RPG study, we have had the opportunity to playtest these rules, just a little bit, and have some thoughts on some of the content that we've seen so far. A lot of skill(s) Reading through the rules document we got the impression that Dragonbane presents a swingy, but fast resolution mechanic. Nearly every situation encountered in the game is resolved through the skill system. Want to make an attack with your sword? Want to look for traps? That's a skill.
